Confidence & Courage
Meet Sunny the Panda™: Georgia's Yellow-and-Black Panda on a Mission to Help Kids Shine
By Audrey Bell-Kearney ·

Quick takeaway: Meet Sunny the Panda, Georgia's yellow-and-black children's character helping kids ages 4–8 learn kindness, confidence, friendship, and life skills.
As Atlanta welcomes two new giant pandas from China, a different kind of panda is ready to make his debut—and he's bringing kindness, confidence, friendship, and adventure along for the journey.
Something exciting is happening in Georgia! Two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, have arrived at Zoo Atlanta, bringing renewed excitement about these fascinating animals.
But there's another panda making his debut in Georgia. Unlike the familiar black-and-white pandas, this one is yellow and black, full of personality, and on a mission to help children discover something special about themselves.
Meet Sunny the Panda™!
Sunny is a lovable children's character created to help kids ages 4–8 build confidence, celebrate what makes them different, develop friendships, and discover the power of kindness.
And while Sunny may not look like other pandas, that's exactly the point.
A Panda Who Was Born to Shine
Sunny isn't your ordinary panda. His bright yellow-and-black appearance is a reminder that being different isn't something to hide. It's something to celebrate.
Sunny's message is simple but powerful:
You were born to shine, just the way you are.
Through colorful children's books, animated stories, interactive games, creative activities, and exciting digital adventures, Sunny helps children explore important life lessons in ways they can understand and enjoy.
Whether a child is learning to make new friends, working through a difficult emotion, building the courage to try something new, or discovering the importance of treating others with kindness, Sunny is there to help guide the adventure.
Rather than simply telling children what to do, Sunny encourages them to think, explore, make choices, and learn through play.
The Story Behind Sunny the Panda
Behind Sunny's big personality is Georgia entrepreneur, author, and publisher Audrey Bell-Kearney, founder of the Gwinnett Women's Chamber of Commerce.
For nearly three decades, Audrey has built businesses, written books, developed creative projects, and helped entrepreneurs turn their ideas into opportunities.
In 1999, she introduced a line of plus-size fashion dolls, challenging traditional ideas about representation in the toy industry.
Now, she's bringing that same creative spirit into children's education and entertainment.
Sunny began with a simple question:
What if a children's character could do more than entertain? What if he could help children build confidence, understand their feelings, celebrate differences, and learn how to treat others with kindness?
That idea became Sunny the Panda.
For Audrey, Sunny represents more than another creative project. He's an opportunity to build a world where children feel encouraged, included, and excited about learning.
The goal is to create stories and experiences that children enjoy while giving parents, grandparents, and teachers meaningful tools to support their growth.

Atlanta's New Pandas Inspire a Special Sunny Adventure
The arrival of Ping Ping and Fu Shuang at Zoo Atlanta couldn't have come at a more exciting time for Sunny's introduction.
With families across Georgia eager to learn about the new giant pandas, Sunny is preparing a special educational experience called Sunny's Panda Adventure.
This upcoming adventure will help children discover fascinating facts about giant pandas while exploring important lessons about friendship, kindness, and caring for our planet.
Children will have opportunities to learn:
- Where giant pandas live and what their natural habitats look like.
- Why giant pandas eat so much bamboo.
- How people help protect pandas and other wildlife.
- Why welcoming someone new is an act of kindness.
- How even small actions can make a positive difference in the world.
The adventure is being designed with young children in mind, combining fun panda facts with coloring activities, interactive challenges, and opportunities for families to learn together.
Although inspired by the excitement surrounding Atlanta's new giant pandas, Sunny's Panda Adventure is an independent educational initiative and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Zoo Atlanta.
Why Social and Emotional Learning Matters
Children learn much more than reading, writing, and numbers during their early years.
They're also learning how to recognize emotions, communicate their feelings, make friends, solve problems, and believe in themselves.
These abilities are often called social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.
For children ages 4–8, stories and playful activities can provide opportunities to practice these skills in everyday situations.
A story about making a new friend can open a conversation about kindness. A game about solving a problem can encourage patience. A character who celebrates his differences can help a child recognize what makes them unique.
That's where Sunny comes in.
By combining storytelling, imagination, and interactive learning, Sunny's Clubhouse aims to make important life lessons feel like exciting adventures rather than classroom assignments.
From Children's Books to a World of Adventures
One of Sunny's stories, Sunny the Panda: Born to Shine, introduces children to the importance of being proud of what makes them different.
But the vision for Sunny doesn't stop with books.
Sunny's Clubhouse is growing into a world where children can read stories, watch videos, explore digital adventures, participate in creative activities, and connect with Sunny's positive messages in different ways.
The goal is to build a children's brand that combines entertainment, education, and meaningful experiences.
For Audrey Bell-Kearney, Sunny is also the next chapter in a lifelong journey of entrepreneurship and creative storytelling.
After nearly 30 years of turning ideas into businesses, she's now focused on creating something that can make a lasting difference in the lives of children.
Every Child Deserves a Chance to Shine
At the heart of Sunny's Clubhouse is one important belief:
Every child has something special inside them.
Some children are outgoing. Others are quiet. Some love art, while others love science, music, sports, or storytelling.
No two children are exactly alike, and that's what makes the world interesting.
Sunny's yellow-and-black fur is a colorful reminder that children don't have to look, think, or act exactly like everyone else to belong.
They simply need opportunities to discover their strengths, build confidence, and learn how to share their light with others.
And that's the message Sunny hopes to bring to families everywhere.
